Why do we need to be literate in media and information?

Literate means "educated". As defined by Merriam-Webster Dictionary. Thus being educated in media and information.

The reason why we should be media and information literate is to determine whether the given information is a scam or not.

Media today is much more accessible than before and spreading information is easier and faster by the use of different media(internet, social networks, etc.).

But some of this information may be a scam. As users of media, we must be wary of what we see and what we hear.



Scammers scam for profit by swindling your own money. Examples of a scam:

Being fooled by a scam can cost you a lot of money or on some instances, something much more important than money.

Upon seeing or hearing an information, always research first to know whether is it true or not, for a scam may look simple, but it is dangerous.
